Satyanarayan pooja cost in Bangalore: a realistic 2026 breakdown
The Satyanarayan pooja is the friendliest puja there is. Anyone can host it, it can be simple or grand, and it costs less than most people fear. Here is what each part really costs in Bangalore in 2026, so you can plan without guessing.
The full guide to the pooja itself, with the samagri list and the prasada, is in Satyanarayan pooja at home. This page is only about money.
Line 1: the pandit
Basic: Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000. One pandit, the full katha, and the small consumables they carry (powders, threads, a few items for the kalasha). Online booking platforms list basic Satyanarayan packages from about Rs 4,000, which matches the market.
Full: Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. Full samagri brought by the pandit, a decorated mandapa or setup, sometimes a second pandit, sometimes a homa added before the pooja.
What moves the price:
- Samagri included or not. The biggest difference between two quotes.
- Travel. A pandit coming from Malleshwaram to Whitefield on a weekday morning has earned something extra. Some include it, some do not.
- The day. Pournami in Shravana or Kartika, and big muhurta days, cost more and book out early.
- Language. Pandits for some languages are fewer in Bangalore, and may charge more or travel further.
Dakshina etiquette, and how to give it without awkwardness, is in the dakshina guide.
Line 2: what you arrange
Even with a pandit, you usually arrange:
- Fruit, especially bananas, and flowers and garlands: Rs 500 to Rs 1,500
- Betel leaves and nuts, coconuts, lamp oil or ghee, camphor: Rs 300 to Rs 800
- Panchamrita (milk, curd, honey, sugar, ghee): Rs 200 to Rs 500
- The prasada (sapaada sheera) ingredients: Rs 300 to Rs 800, depending on how many people
Budget line: Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. Make more prasada than you think. Running out is the one outcome to avoid.
Line 3: food
This is where the real range is.
- Family only: prasada and a home-cooked meal. Almost no extra cost.
- 20 to 30 guests: a simple lunch from a caterer, roughly Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000, including the minimum order.
- 50 guests: a banana-leaf lunch, roughly Rs 18,000 to Rs 35,000.
Line 4: extras
- Chairs for elders, if you do not have enough: Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000
- Simple decoration for the mandapa: Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000
- Tamboola for guests, if your family gives it: Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000
Realistic totals
- Done yourselves, no pandit, family only: Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000
- With a pandit, family only, about 15 people: Rs 8,000 to Rs 18,000
- With a pandit and lunch for 50: Rs 30,000 to Rs 55,000
- Combined with a griha pravesh: see the griha pravesh cost guide

The short version
A pandit costs Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 with basic samagri, or up to Rs 15,000 with everything. The samagri and prasada you arrange are Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. Food is the big variable. A note on the numbers
These are realistic 2026 Bangalore planning bands, based on current pandit and catering rates in the city. Your real cost depends on headcount, locality and the day. Always get an itemised quote before you commit.
Common questions
How much does a Satyanarayan pooja cost in Bangalore in 2026?
The pandit costs roughly Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 with basic samagri, or Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 with full samagri and setup. A family-only pooja for about 15 people comes to Rs 8,000 to Rs 18,000 in total. With lunch for 50 guests, plan for Rs 30,000 to Rs 55,000.
What does the pandit's fee include?
It depends on the pandit. Some quotes include dakshina, small samagri and travel. Others include only the dakshina. Ask three things on the first call: is samagri included, is travel included, and how long will the pooja take with the full katha.
Is it cheaper to do it without a pandit?
Yes. If someone in the family can read the katha and do the sankalpa, the cost is only the samagri and prasada, roughly Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. The Satyanarayan pooja is designed to be done at home, and many families do it themselves regularly.
When are pandits most expensive?
On Pournami in Shravana and Kartika months, and on griha pravesh muhurta days, when every pandit is booked from early morning. Book two to three weeks ahead for those days. On an ordinary day, a week's notice is usually enough.
