A kids' birthday party at home or in the clubhouse: the plan and the 2026 cost

9 October 2026

A child’s birthday party in Bangalore has three audiences. The children, who want a magician and cake. The parents, who want somewhere to sit and something hot to eat. And the grandparents, who would like to know why there is no puja.

You can make all three happy in two and a half hours. Here is how, and what it costs in 2026.

First decide: home or clubhouse

Count the children first, then decide where.

  • Up to about 15 children: home is fine, if you can clear the living room and move the glass things.
  • 15 to 40 children: book the apartment clubhouse. Most charge a few thousand rupees for a half-day, plus a refundable deposit. Ask what is included: chairs, tables, a sound system, cleaning.
  • More than 40: a party hall or a kids’ play café. Different budget, different plan.

When you book the clubhouse, ask about the rules. Most associations have an end time, a noise limit, and a rule about confetti and balloon bits (some charge a cleaning fee). Get the booking confirmed in writing. Two families turning up for the same Saturday slot happens more than you would think.

A party that runs on time

Kids’ parties go well when the schedule is short and there is always something happening. A simple two-and-a-half-hour plan:

  1. Arrivals and free play, 30 minutes. Colouring sheets, a few toys, a corner for the smallest ones. Nobody arrives on time, so do not start the main event until most children are there.
  2. The entertainer, 40 to 45 minutes. Magic, puppets, or a games host. One good entertainer is better than three average ones.
  3. Cake, 15 minutes. Song, cake, photos. Have the knife, the candles, the lighter and the plates ready on the table before you call everyone.
  4. Food, 30 to 40 minutes. Children first, then adults.
  5. Return gifts and goodbyes. Put them by the door, so parents can collect them as they leave.

For a first birthday, cut all of this shorter. One-year-olds do not watch magicians. Their parents do.

Food: feed the parents

The most common mistake? Planning food for the children and forgetting the adults.

Most parents stay at a young child’s party. So 25 children usually means 35 to 45 adults. Children eat a little and wander off. Adults have come straight from work, or skipped lunch, and they will eat properly.

Two menus work best. Simple finger food for the children (mini dosas, small rolls, pasta, fruit). A proper meal for the adults, such as a South Indian or North Indian dinner, or a good chaat counter. Keep at least one item that is not spicy, for the children who will only eat plain rice and curd.

What it costs in 2026

Planning numbers for Bangalore, not quotes. Prices change by locality and season, and everyone books the same weekends before Deepavali, Christmas and the summer holidays.

Venue: Rs 0 to Rs 10,000. Home is free. A clubhouse is usually a few thousand rupees for a half-day, plus a deposit.

Decor: Rs 3,000 to Rs 25,000. A balloon arch and a name banner at home sits at the low end. A full theme with a backdrop, a cake table, and standees costs more. Ask the decorator for photos of real work, not only their best Instagram post.

Entertainer: Rs 4,000 to Rs 12,000. A magician, puppet show, or games host for about 45 minutes. Add-ons like a tattoo artist, caricaturist, or bubble show are usually a few thousand each.

Cake: Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000. For 25 children plus adults, plan for 2 to 3 kg. Theme cakes with figures cost more per kg, and need to be ordered early.

Food: Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. For 25 children and about 40 adults, through a caterer or a good restaurant’s party menu. Check for a minimum order.

Return gifts: Rs 2,500 to Rs 10,000. Rs 100 to Rs 400 per child. Books and craft kits get used. Plastic things mostly do not.

Realistic totals:

  • Small, 10 to 15 children at home: Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000
  • Typical, about 25 children plus parents, clubhouse: Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000
  • Large, 40 or more children with a full theme: Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,50,000

Do you need a birthday party organiser?

A birthday party organiser in Bangalore usually means one person who books the decorator, the entertainer, the cake and sometimes the food, and runs the day. Is it worth it?

  • Probably not for a small party at home with 10 to 15 children. One or two calls to a decorator and an entertainer, and a parent on the day, is enough.
  • Probably yes if it is 30 or more children in a clubhouse, both parents work, or you are also doing a puja the same morning. The time saved is real, and an organiser who does this every weekend already knows which entertainers turn up on time.

If you hire one, ask for an itemised quote, not a package price. You want to see what the decorator, the entertainer and the food each cost, so you can drop one line if the total is too high. And ask who will actually be there on the day. It should be the person you spoke to, not someone you have never met.

If you are also doing a puja

Many families do the traditional part in the morning and the party in the evening. The morning is for the family and the elders. The evening is for friends and the children from the building. It is a long day for a small child, so keep the evening party at two hours and plan a nap in between.

If the morning is an ayushya homa for a first birthday, the ayushya homa guide explains that half: the star birthday, the apartment rules on fire, and keeping the child away from the smoke.

That is exactly what Event Maami is for. A maami will call you back and help you plan both halves of the day, with a clear cost. No charge for the conversation.

The short version

Count the children, then choose home or clubhouse. Keep the party to two and a half hours with one good entertainer. Order food for the parents as well as the children. For about 25 children plus parents, plan for Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000. Book the clubhouse, the entertainer and the cake at least three weeks ahead, more if your date is near a long weekend.

A note on the numbers

These are realistic 2026 Bangalore planning bands, based on current decor, entertainer and catering rates in the city. Your real cost depends on headcount, theme, locality and season. Always get an itemised quote before you commit.

Common questions

How much does a kids' birthday party cost in Bangalore in 2026?

For about 25 children plus their parents, at home or in the apartment clubhouse, plan for roughly Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000. That covers decor, one entertainer, the cake, food for children and adults, and return gifts. A large party with 40 or more children and a full theme costs Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,50,000.

Home or clubhouse?

Up to about 15 children, home works if you have a clear living room. Beyond that, book the clubhouse. It costs a few thousand rupees, saves your furniture, and the cleaning is somebody else's problem (check that it is, in writing).

How long should a kids' party be?

Two hours, two and a half at most. Plan 30 minutes for arrivals and free play, 45 minutes for the entertainer, 15 minutes for the cake, and 30 to 40 minutes for food. After that, the children are tired and the parents are looking at their watches.

How much food should we order?

Order for the parents too. Most parents stay at a young child's party, so 25 children usually means 35 to 45 adults. Children eat less than you expect. Adults eat more than you expect.

Can we combine it with a homa or puja the same day?

Yes, many families do the puja or ayushya homa in the morning for the family and the party in the evening for friends. It is a long day, so keep the evening party short and use two different menus.
